Abstract
Today’s dog owners are more and more likely to feed dietary supplements, no matter the animal’s base diet. I investigated whether one of the most popular food supplement, the high omega-3 fatty acid containing salmon oil is oppressing the wound healing of dogs, for which I picked 13 female shelter dogs undergoing ovariectomy or ovariohysterectomy. For my examinations, I tried to use minimally invasive methods, which can be used in the daily veterinary clinical practice, like rectal temperature, wound surface temperature, wound surface pH and pain scaling.
