Abstract:
For a long time researcher investigate the question of hybridization, especially since the molecular techniques have been improved. Due to these improvements it is possible to study it’s effects and role in the evolutionary processes. Any proof of hybridization between the Eastern Imperial Eagle (Aquila heliaca, Savygny, 1809) and the Steppe Eagle (Aquila nipalensis, Hodgson, 1833) hasn’t been published yet. Some observations about individuals with mixed phenotypic traits were reported by the members of the International Imperial Eagle Working Group. For example in Turkey they have found a mixed pair, with an Imperial Eagle phenotypic female and a Steppe Eagle phenotypic male. Furthermore for instance in Russia several breeding pairs breed at the edge of the species’s distributional area, therefore studies of their possible hybridization would be also interesting.
